For Prayerful Moments When Life Is Hard

Get the pack · US$6When life is hard, some of us reach for something bigger than ourselves. We may not be looking for answers. We just want to feel a little less alone with it.
These are prayers to the universe, in my own words, that you can make your own. They say plainly that life isn’t easy, for any of us, especially when times are tough. Then they turn us back towards ourselves with gratitude and kindness: ‘May I choose myself again and again, especially when times are tough.’
You can listen with your eyes closed, or say the words along with me. Most of them end the same way, with ‘And so it is.’
There are five tracks here. Three also come in shorter versions, for the moments when you only have a few minutes.
What’s inside
Dear Universe, in Tough Times
2 versions
Full version · 8 minShorter version · 4 min
For when times are tough and you want to feel held by something bigger. The prayer begins ‘Dear universe, this prayer is for me, and it is for you’, and gives thanks for guidance through the dark days and the brighter ones that follow. It reminds you that the one constant is change, and that you can choose yourself again and again. It closes with thanks: ‘We are inseparable. And so it is.’ The shorter version goes from change straight to the closing thanks.
A Prayer for Tough Times
2 versions
Full version · 8 minShorter version · 5 min
For when you’d like affirmations with a prayerful feel. You close your eyes and offer this prayer to yourself, as ‘a spiritual being, having a human experience’. Then come affirmations to take in, like ‘I choose to recognise that the universe has my back, even in tough times’ and ‘I love the fact that my challenges bring out my inner strength.’ It ends in gratitude for yourself, even when you’re going through tough times. The shorter version skips the repeated opening and a couple of the affirmations.
A Prayer for Me, Them and the Universe
7 min
For when you want to hold other people in your heart as well as yourself. You close your eyes and offer this prayer to yourself and the world, grateful for this way of connecting. Then you bring to mind the ‘sweet souls’ who sometimes feel a little lost in life, the ones you know who are going through a tough time and the ones you don’t, and remember that we’re all in this together. It ends in thanks for the power of love.
My Prayer for Spiritual Alignment
3 versions
Full version · 6 minShorter version · 5 minMini version · 3 min
For coming back to yourself when you’ve drifted. The prayer starts with everyone’s struggles, ‘everyone, no matter who they are, is going through something’, and asks to meet your own in a kind way. Then it reminds you that forgetting yourself is part of the journey: ‘I am here to disconnect, so that I can reconnect.’ It closes in thanks for the power of love. The shorter version starts at the remembering, and the mini keeps the opening about everyone’s struggles and goes straight to the close.
When Sensitivity Guides Me
6 min
For a time of change, when you’re feeling things more deeply than before. The message is that ‘healing can hurt’, and that a new tenderness can be a sign you’re growing. I talk about how glimpses of clarity can make everything else feel out of tune, and how ‘what used to pass you by now speaks.’ Then a few lines to make your own, ‘This awareness is my teacher’, and it ends with a short sung refrain: ‘My soul expands, my roots are strong.’
